Beginning of the academic year
Occurs generally in the first week of September,
but may differ among institutions which are
autonomous.
Teaching activity and holidays of the academic year
Institutions fix periods of teaching activity and
holidays. Teaching activity usually is organised
from September to December and from
February to May.
Full-time studies correspond to 40 weeks per
year and not less than 40 academic hours per
week.
Higher education institutions in cooperation with
their stakeholders from employment
organisations autonomously determine the
practical training placements (internships)
periods for their students.
As regards the holidays, there is usually one
week around Christmas/New Year and another
one at Easter.Examinations of the academic year
Institutions fix periods of examinations. Usually
examinations proceed after the teaching activity
period and take place in January/February and
June/July.
End of the academic year
The academic year generally ends after the last
examination of spring or summer semester.
