Universities and Institutes of Technology are autonomous bodies and start dates may vary but in general for 2017/18 the academic year starts on Monday 4 September.

Teaching activity and holidays of the academic year

Teaching activity: The semester is generally a period of 15 weeks, which normally includes 12 weeks teaching. All periods of teaching activity and holidays are individually fixed by each University or Institute.

Universities and Institutes of Technology are autonomous bodies. For Universities, the academic year generally ends at the date the new one begins. For Institutes of Technology, the academic year generally ends in June.
