Universities and Institutes of Technology are autonomous bodies and start dates may vary but in general for 2017/18 the academic year starts on Monday 4 September.

Teaching activity and holidays of the academic year

Teaching activity: The semester is generally a period of 15 weeks, which normally includes 12 weeks teaching. All periods of teaching activity and holidays are individually fixed by each University or Institute.
