Public holidays: Certain dates are regarded as official holidays (religious, national, public):22 September 2017, 24 December 2017, 3 March 2018, 1 May 2018, 6 May 2018, 24-25 May 2018
Students have a break for about 2 weeks for Christmas and Easter holidays. Each HEI celebrates the day of its patron, on which teaching activity is not carried out.
Beginning of the academic year
1 October is assumed as the official start of the new academic year. However, due to the autonomy of higher education institutions (HEIs), starting dates vary from one institution to another.

Teaching activity and holidays of the academic year
The academic year consists of two semesters (winter and summer). However, the length of teaching activity (lectures and practical trainings) differs from one HEI to another due to their
  autonomy.

Examinations dates, holidays (other than the officially announced public and religious holidays) are determined at institutional level.
Examinations of the academic year
The examination dates are determined at
institutional level, however, they are usually
scheduled within the period starting from mid-
January to mid-February at the latest (end of the
winter semester), and within the period from mid-
June to mid-July.

Students who fail to take or pass an exam on the
date within the indicated period, are supposed to
take/re-take the exam usually in early September.
End of the academic year
HEIs are autonomous. The academic year
generally ends between end-June and mid-July.
