National student fee
In Portugal all students pay tuition fees, and there are no fee waivers or reductions. In 2023/24 the annual fee for a first-cycle (bachelor's) degree ranged from EUR 495 to EUR 697, with EUR 697 as the most common amount.
In the second cycle (master's), each institution sets its own fee, so the price may depend on the field of study and type of programme. The exception is integrated public programmes leading to a regulated profession, which cost the same as the first cycle. Institutions also decide on fees for international students, with no upper limit. Part-time students pay a proportional fee according to their institution's rules.Student grants
Need-based grants are available to home students, both full-time and part-time, and refugees can exceptionally receive them too. Merit-based grants are open to home and international students, full-time and part-time. There is no age limit for getting a grant.
In 2023/24 need-based grants ranged from EUR 872 to EUR 5,982 a year, with EUR 872 as the most common amount. Merit-based grants amounted to EUR 3,800.Loans
