National student fee

Full-time students at Polish public universities don't pay tuition fees. Most students pay only a one-time administrative fee; in 2023/24 the most common amount was about EUR 8 in the first cycle and EUR 12 in the second cycle. Universities may, however, charge for some services: repeating classes after poor results, extra classes outside the study programme, confirming learning outcomes, and accommodation and meals in student dorms and canteens. International students pay higher fees.

Each university sets its fees and waiver rules before recruitment, after consulting the student government, and fees can't exceed the real cost of running the studies. Once you have started, no new fees can be introduced for your year, and existing fees may rise only once a year, by no more than the previous year's inflation and by no more than 30% in total. The fee for confirming learning outcomes may exceed its cost by no more than 20%. Waivers and reductions are possible for excellent results or on social grounds, and students in international scholarship programmes such as Erasmus+ or affected by emergencies, such as an armed conflict in their home country, may be fully or partly exempt.

Student grants

Poland has need-based and merit-based grants, open to both home and international students, whether they study full-time or part-time. There is no age limit for getting a grant, and grants can be combined with a student loan. So if you come to Poland from abroad, you can apply for these grants too, not only Polish students. Eurydice has no data on grant amounts or on the share of students who receive them for 2023/24.

Loans

Publicly subsidised student loans are available to home full-time and part-time students under the age of 30, and you can apply at any time during the year. Some international students can also get one, for example holders of a permanent residence permit, long-term EU residents, refugees and holders of the Karta Polaka (Pole's Card). Eurydice gives no loan amounts for 2023/24.

Tax benefit for student's parents

Parents can get tax relief for a student child up to the age of 25, and students with their own income can also benefit from tax relief. Students can additionally get housing support.

Family allowances

There are no family allowances for students' parents.
