National student fee

In Luxembourg all students pay fees, which cover registration, certification and tuition. In 2023/24 Bachelor's students at the University of Luxembourg paid between EUR 400 and EUR 800 a year, most commonly EUR 400. In the second cycle the usual amount was also EUR 400 a year.

In the second cycle, fees depend on the field of study. One Master's programme, the Master in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, is much more expensive, with a maximum fee of EUR 24,000.

Students facing financial or social difficulties can get fee waivers or reductions, and the rector of the university can cut or cancel the tuition fee in individual cases. There are no programmes taught in a foreign language, and only one short-cycle programme is offered both full-time and part-time.

Student grants

Luxembourg has need-based and universal grants for home full-time and part-time students, with no age limit. International students cannot get state aid, but the University of Luxembourg offers them its own grants.

In 2023/24 the universal grant could include a base grant of EUR 2,398 a year, a family grant of EUR 574 a year (if other family members are also students), a mobility grant of up to EUR 2,982 a year for studying abroad and up to EUR 1,900 a year towards tuition fees. Universal grants ranged from EUR 2,398 to EUR 7,894 a year, and need-based grants reached up to EUR 4,642 a year.

Students who live abroad but travel to Luxembourg every day (for example, because their parents work there) are mostly eligible too. Grants can be changed during the year, so the figures are estimates.

Loans

Publicly subsidised loans are available to home full-time and part-time students, with no age limit. Grants and loans can be combined.

Tax benefit for student's parents

Parents of students can get tax reductions, with no age limit.

Family allowances

There are no family allowances for students' parents.
