National student fee
In Greece first-cycle studies are free for both home and international students. There are two exceptions: studies at the Hellenic Open University, and undergraduate programmes taught in a foreign language, which charge tuition fees to international students. At the Hellenic Open University you can apply for a reduction based on your academic results or your social and economic situation; otherwise there are no waivers in the first cycle.
Master's and other postgraduate programmes in the second cycle may charge fees, but not all of them do. Each institution sets the amounts in its own internal regulations, and fees can differ by discipline and by whether a programme is taught in a foreign language. Eurydice gives no fee amounts for 2023/24. There are no accredited short-cycle programmes.Student grants
Direct support in Greece comes as scholarships, which are awarded only exceptionally: for academic or extracurricular achievement, for proven financial need or on other criteria.
There is also a housing allowance of EUR 1,500 a year, paid to the parents of first-cycle students who study away from their permanent home. It depends on economic criteria and academic performance, and students working towards a second degree or a postgraduate title cannot get it.Loans
There are no publicly subsidised student loans.Tax benefit for student's parents
Tax benefits are available to students and their parents as long as the student is no older than 25.Family allowances
Parents can receive family allowances for a student child up to the age of 24.
