National student fee
In Bosnia and Herzegovina every student pays something. The government exempts a set number of full-time students from tuition, but they still have to pay administrative costs – nobody is exempt from those. Fees depend on the study cycle, the field of study and the type of programme, for example programmes taught in a foreign language or a second degree.
According to Eurydice data for full-time home students in 2023/24, first-cycle (Bachelor's) fees ranged from about EUR 102 to EUR 1,023 a year, with EUR 511 being the most common. In the second cycle (Master's) they ranged from EUR 511 to EUR 2,556, most often EUR 1,278. Every student pays more than EUR 100 a year.
Some groups pay more: part-time students, students who take longer than planned, students in certain disciplines or foreign-language programmes, and international students. If you lack points or extend your studies, you pay compensation for each failed exam (half of the tuition fee divided by the number of exams in the year). Full-time first-cycle students from families where two or more children study pay half the fee, up to age 26. Waivers and reductions are also possible for students in a difficult socio-economic situation, including those who study longer.Student grants
Bosnia and Herzegovina has need-based, merit-based and universal grants, but only for full-time home students up to the age of 35. Grants are usually paid for 10 months a year.
In 2023/24 need-based grants ranged from EUR 639 to EUR 1,023 a year, most often EUR 767. Merit-based grants for good results ranged from EUR 665 to EUR 1,278, most commonly EUR 665. There is no information on how many students receive a grant.Loans
