Student grants
Grants come from Lånekassen, the state bank for education, and are open to full-time and part-time home students up to the age of 65. There are universal and need-based grants; need-based support includes extra grants for students with children and for students with reduced functional ability. Lånekassen does not give merit-based grants. Grants are paid for 11 months a year.
In 2023/24 the universal grant was EUR 5,311 a year, while need-based grants ranged from EUR 3,889 to EUR 9,191 (most often EUR 9,191). International students generally cannot get Lånekassen grants, although some with special ties to Norway may receive support.Loans
Lånekassen offers publicly subsidised loans to full-time and part-time home students up to the age of 65, and loans can be combined with grants. Students over 30 can apply for an additional loan. International students are not eligible, except Ukrainian refugees and students who have paid for three years of study in Norway themselves. The source does not give loan amounts or repayment terms for 2023/24.
