Student grants

Full-time students in the first and second cycle can receive need-based and merit-based grants, and this includes incoming students. International students can get need-based grants only if they have long-term or permanent residence or are asylum seekers. The age limit is 26.

Need-based grants are paid for 10 months of the academic year. Merit-based scholarships are not set by law: each institution makes its own rules and usually pays them afterwards, per semester. According to Eurydice data, the most common merit-based grant in 2023/24 was EUR 417 a year. Students who study away from home can also get an accommodation grant, on average CZK 5,400 a year.
