Student grants

Croatia has need-based and merit-based grants for full-time home students in the first and second cycle. They are paid in 9 monthly instalments and there is no age limit.

The main need-based scheme is the State Scholarship Based on Socio-Economic Status, awarded through a public competition. In 2023/24, 12,000 of these grants went to full-time home students. The need-based grant amounted to EUR 1,800 a year.

State Scholarships for Students in STEM fields are also available to full-time EU/EEA/EFTA students and to full-time students with international or temporary protection. In 2023/24 merit-based grants ranged from EUR 2,700 to EUR 5,400 a year, with EUR 2,700 being the most common.

About 12% of first-cycle students received a grant.
