National student fee
In Italy all students pay fees. Universities set their own fee rules within national law, and the amount you pay depends mainly on your family's economic situation and on your programme.
In 2023/24 Bachelor's students paid between EUR 200 and EUR 2,956 a year, with an average of about EUR 1,629. Master's students paid between EUR 200 and EUR 3,031, with an average of about EUR 1,761. These figures include two compulsory taxes: the regional tax (about EUR 140) and the central government tax (about EUR 16). Some students pay only these two taxes, around EUR 160 in total.
Each university can charge more to students who take longer than planned, and programmes taught in a foreign language can also cost more. International students are not covered by the same fee rules as home students.
Waivers and reductions are available based on family income and academic results.
